Ready to adopt?

To be considered you must:

  • Have identification and a utility bill showing your present address
  • If renting, have the knowledge and written consent of your landlord
  • Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and proper care for the rest of the dog’s life.

Adoption Process

  • Meet and Greet
After your application is approved, you will be contacted to schedule a meet for your dog of interest. Everyone living in the house must attend the initial meet and greet, agree upon adopting your dog of interest.

  • Home Check
While a home visit is required prior to placement, it does not guarantee adoption. We like to see where our dogs will be living which gives us peace of mind they will be in a safe secure environment and be living as beloved family members. Often we can help with unforeseen health and safety risks that potential adopters may not be aware of.

  • Adoption Contract
The adoption contract is a binding agreement between the adopter and the SAFE Rescue Team.  A copy will be emailed prior to the home check to discuss any questions or concerns.

  • Adoption Donations
In many cases, we have already spent hundreds of dollars on vet bills and care for each dog. The donation helps us recoup a small fraction of those costs.  Adoption donations cover spay/neuter (with our vet), *vaccinations, microchip, a wellness check, any additional medical expenses necessarily incurred by rescue, and of course all the love and daily care we take with each dog before they are adopted.

  • Training
Training is an IMPORTANT part of a dog’s well-being.  Most of the dogs we rescue are from neglectful homes, or stressful shelters, or they have been living and surviving on the streets. We see the same heartbreaking scenarios that sadly end with wonderful dogs being euthanized because of something as simple as dog training (or lack of it).
We are passionate and committed to dog training and education and work hard to set each dog off on a successful start in their new home therefore training is part of our adoption requirements. An additional training fee is required and paid directly to one of our approved trainers.  We work with some amazing trainers but if you have a trainer you prefer or have worked with in the past, we will take that into consideration to meet our requirements.
